My Future My Career Kids Program

The My Future My Career Kids Entrepreneurship start-up program launched in 2021. To date, 65 youth businesses have been supported with $29,125 in grant funds.

The program supports youth to start their own business or expand their existing venture with the help of a micro grant of up to $500 to assist with start-up costs to launch or grow their business.

  • Open to Northumberland County residents, ages 8 to 14.
  • To support a new start-up business, or grow their existing business.
  • Applicant must not have received grant funds from BECN in the last three years.

Please note this is a competitive process due to the availability of funds, and not all applicants will receive a micro grant.

This application is for children who are keen on entrepreneurship. The micro grant will help support costs such as marketing, supplies, and equipment.

The first step in your entrepreneurial journey

This program is a great opportunity for children to begin the entrepreneurship journey and potentially prepare for the next available youth program, Summer Company. Fostering the entrepreneurial spirit the program will help provide the confidence for kids to start or continue their own business venture.

Important dates

Program applications open Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

Deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

Successful applicants will be notified by Thursday, June 18, 2026.

For approved participants:

  • Cheque presentation awards ceremony and pizza party: Thursday, July 9, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at Northumberland County Council Chambers (555 Courthouse Road, Cobourg, 2nd Floor).
  • Tradeshow-style selling promotional event: Wednesday, August 12, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Staples Store Cobourg
  • Product-based businesses are invited to Cobourg Farmers Market Youth Day: Saturday, August 22, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Please note: This is a competitive process due to limited funding. Not all applicants will receive a micro-grant. However, all applicants will be encouraged and supported in their entrepreneurial journey.
